Researchers
Camelia BECIU is a professor with the National School of Political and Administrative Studies (Department of Communication Sciences) and senior researcher with the Institute of Sociology of the Romanian Academy (Laboratory Sociology of communication and public space). In 1999 she got her Ph.D. from the University of Bucharest with a thesis on "A Discourse-Analytical Approach of the Electoral Sphere. The 1996 presidential election in Romania". Her main research interests include political communication, the sociology of public sphere and discourse analysis. Camelia Beciu is the author of the following books:
"Comunicare si discurs mediatic. O lectura sociologica", (Communication and media discourse. A Sociological Outlook ) (2009), "Comunicarea politică" (Political Communication), (2002) and "Politica discursivă. Practici Politice intr-o campanie electorala" (Discursive Politics: Political Practices in an Election Campaign), (2000). She edited (with Nicolae Perpelea) "Europe and the Public Space. Communication Practices, Representations, Emotional Climate", Editura Academiei, 2007, Bucharest and Communication et cultures. Regards croisés sur les pratiques (Beciu, C., Dragan, I., Popescu-Jourdy, D., Riondet., O., 2009) .
Nicolae PERPELEA is senior researcher at the Institute of Sociology of the Romanian Academy (Laboratory of Sociology of Communication and Public Space), and professor with the University of Bucharest (current courses: Theories of Communication, Televisual Communication, Methodes of Qualitative Analysis of Communication, The Sociology of Mass-Media and Public Space, General Sociology, Social Psychology). Nicolae Perpelea got his Ph.D. in Sociology in the field of communication and cognitive sciences. He is the author of the following books: Sociology. Theories, Concepts, Images (2004); The Symbolic Construction of the Electoral Field (1998); The Communication Body Challenged. Sociological Models of Cognitive - Expressivist Pragmatics (2002). He edited (with C. Beciu) „Europe and the Public Space. Communication Practices, Representations, Emotional Climate”, (Editura Academiei, 2007, Bucharest). His research interests focus on all aspects of communication, but especially on exploring those emotional characteristics which distinguish individual and collective actors within a moral-political contexts. Other research projects contribute to the understanding and practice of visual sociology. The purpose of the recently book Imagini ale sociologiei contemporane (Ed. Ars Docendi, 2007) is to promote the study, production, and use of visual images (photographs, paintings, fashion, facial expressions, landscape, architecture, film, video, and electronically transmitted images) in teaching of sociology and social research.
Simona ŞTEFĂNESCU is Associate Professor (Reader) and Dean of the Faculty of Social Work, Theological Adventist Institute, Cernica, Ilfov and External Senior Researcher at the Laboratory ‘Sociology of Communication and Public Space’, Institute of Sociology of the Romanian Academy, Bucharest. In 2002 she got her Ph.D. from the University of Bucharest with a thesis on Political Crises and Media Communication. The Media Coverage of Interethnic Conflict in former Yugoslavia (1991-1995). Her main research interests include: sociology of communication and of public sphere, media studies, popular culture, social problems, methods and techniques of sociological research. She is the author of the books: Sociology of Communication (2009), Media and Conflicts (2004); Political Crises - A Sociological Approach (2004) and The Psychology of Educational Processes (2000).
Anca VELICU is Senior Researcher at the Institute of Sociology ( Laboratory Sociology of Communication and Public Space ), Romanian Academy. She is also an associate researcher with the Media and New Technologies Studies Center, University of Bucharest. In 2009 she got her Ph.D. from the University of Bucharest with a thesis on Children Relationship with Television and NTIC. Her main research interests include sociology of the media, uses of NTIC, children and the media, media violence. She is co-author of Tele-visual Representation of Violence and Child Protection (with Drăgan, I, Ştefănescu, P. and Povară, A., 2009, Vanemonde Publishing, Bucharest) and National and/or European? Social Representation of Identity in Present Romanian Society (with Simona Stefanescu, 2006, Expert Publishing, Bucharest).
