The Laboratory Sociology of Communication and Public Space is a research department with the Institute of Sociology of the Romanian Academy made of senior researchers, Ph.D. candidates and associate researchers. Through its theoretical and empirical research, the lab contributes to the understanding of information and communication practices in the hyper- media society.
Main research fields: media culture and the public space – the role of mass media in the construction of public issues; communication practices of collective actions and moral protests; ”social emotions” and their cultural repertoire; TV and political journalism; “Europe” in the media discourse.
The members of the laboratory participate in international projects as well as in expertise activities. At present, the research activities are structured around the project “Mass media and the construction of active publics. New types of representations and deliberative practices”.
